LUNAR NEW YEAR 2024

aaa

This year Lunar New Year fell on 10 February (the first day of New Moon), however the celebrations usually starts the day before and last for 15 days. 2024 marks the year of the majestic Dragon which symbolizes bravery, creativity and innovation. So, may the Dragon be with you in 2024!

On 10th February, over 150 friends and members from the HongKongese community came together to celebrate the beginning of a new Lunar year. The event was funded by South Gloucestershire council and delivered by the local community. There were many different activities to indulge in, from sewing and calligraphy, to food tasting, board games and the highlight of the day- the Lion Dance- performed by University of Bristol’s Lion Dance Troupe.

It was great to see so many of the HongKongese community together in one room, sharing stories about their traditions and welcoming everyone who came. The event was extended to locals who have never celebrated the Lunar New Year, offering the chance to bring the whole family and to enjoy learning about traditional Chinese and HongKongese culture through crafts, games and the togetherness that this community offered.
