This April, North Bristol hosted its first major sporting event of this scale. With nearly 500 participants, the Brabazon Half Marathon & 10k, delivered by YPB Events, marks the beginning of the largest annual sporting event in South Gloucestershire.
The run started and finished at Norman Scott Park in Patchway and passed through the Stokes and Three Brooks Nature Reserve. The local organizers, YPB Events, are very pleased with the turnout and are not stopping there. This autumn, you will see the Charlton Hayes 10k, and within a few years, it is projected to grow in size and include routes through the Brabazon neighbourhood.
Scott Panschuk from YPB Events said, "The pilot event has been a major success with 485 athletes running the 10k and half marathon routes, all commenting on the atmosphere and organization. Patchway Council has already asked YPB Events to host the event again in 2025 with a goal of attracting 1000 athletes and making this a permanent fixture on the calendar. We are very excited about this."
Scott and Andy from YPB also organize and lead a free weekly running group for the local community.
Community worker Anna from Southern Brooks and Tim from YTL Developments were also present at the event to showcase Brabazon and invite visitors to pedal their own smoothies. It was great to see a few Brabazon residents complete the run. Well done!
